Record all transactions related to reference, including staffing the research help or info/checkout desk, responding to direct emails, or wandering the library.

Defining Research Help Categories

Question Type

  • Reference: Anything related to library or openly accessible information sources. Includes finding, accessing, evaluating, using, and citing.
  • Directional: Wayfinding on campus or in the library building.
  • Circulation / Access Services: Policies and procedures about library and materials access.
  • Technology: Support using library computers, or printing. DOES NOT INCLUDE ELECTRONIC RESOURCE ACCESS.
  • Scholarly Communications: Consultations on the publication or dissemination of scholarly works. Includes fair use, copyright, and open access.
  • Other: Something not fit in the above-mentioned categories? Put it here. Make sure to detail the question in the "internal note."
