OneSearch

This guide will teach you all the tricks and tips you need to know to expertly use OneSearch, the library's primary search engine.

What are filters?

Filters refine your search results by resource type, publication date, and subject.  Using filters can help you narrow your search to the most relevant resources.  You will find the OneSearch filter options on the left-hand side of the screen once you enter your search terms and click the Search button.

Active filters

Once you select a filter it will appear at the top of the box under a heading called Active filters.  If you want to apply these filters to your next search you will need to lock your selected filters.  To do so, simply hover over the filter and click the lock icon that appears on the left-hand side of the filter.

Refine my results

There are several ways you can use filters to narrow your search.

Sort by

OneSearch defaults to sort by Relevance, but you have the option to sort by Date-newest, Date-oldest, Author, or Title.

  • Peer-reviewed Journals - this limits your search to print and electronic journals and articles that are published in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Open Access - this limits your search to electronic resources that are published open access and are freely available.
  • Available on Shelf - this limits your search to print resources that are available in the SSU Library and includes print books, journals, DVDs, and CDs. It will only show you items that are not currently checked out.
