OneSearch

This guide will teach you all the tricks and tips you need to know to expertly use our new OneSearch library search engine.

What are filters?

Filters refine your search results by resource type, publication date, and subject.  Using filters can help you narrow your search to the most relevant resources.  You will find the OneSearch filter options on the left-hand side of the screen once you enter your search terms and click the Search button.

Active filters

Once you select a filter it will appear at the top of the box under a heading called Active filters.  If you want to apply these filters to your next search you will need to lock your selected filters.  To do so, simply hover over the filter and click the lock icon that appears on the left-hand side of the filter.

Refine my results

There are several ways you can use filters to narrow your search.

Sort by

OneSearch defaults to sort by Relevance, but you have the option to sort by Date-newest, Date-oldest, Author, or Title.

Available at SSU

  • Available online from SSU- this limits your search to resources that are available through our online databases and includes electronic books, articles, and streaming videos.
  • Peer-reviewed Journal- this limits your search to print and electronic journals and articles.
  • Available in the SSU Library- this limits your search to print resources that are available in the SSU Library and includes print books, journals, DVDs, and CDs.
  • Open Access- this limits your search to electronic resources that are freely available.

Resource Type

You can use these filters to limit the types of resources that appear in your results list.  You can select items to be included in your results by clicking the box that appears on the left-hand side on the filter.  You can exclude items from your results by clicking the box that appears on the right-hand side of the filter.

Publication Date

Change the years in the Publication Date filter to limit your results to resources that were published within a specific date range.

Language

Limit your search to resources in specific languages by clicking the box that appears on the left-hand side of the filter.  You can exclude resources from your results by clicking the box that appears on the right-hand side of the filter.

Subject

Limit your results by subject headings.  Subject headings are used to describe a resource's content.
