A guides for students in the CALS and AMCS Research Methods class or anyone conducting research in American Studies or Ethnic studies

What is a database?

Databases are collections of citations, abstracts, and sometimes full-text content. Most databases contain journal articles, conference papers, and reports. Some also include magazine articles and newspaper articles, data sets, videos, and other kinds of media.

Most databases are subject based. They gather together citations from journals and other sources that are specific to a particular discipline. Some are more generic, and include a wider array of topics.
