A research guide for French majors

Welcome to the French Research Guide

This Research Guide will help you get started on your project and find the right sources to support your research. You'll be introduced to some new tools and techniques to help improve your searching and understand how to get what you need from the library.

At any point in your research process, librarians are here to help. You can email the French subject librarian or schedule an appointment to talk through your project: check out the links in the box in the left sidebar.

There are lots of other ways to get help from a librarian! We have drop-in help in the library, 24/7 online chat, tutorial videos, and more. Visit our Research page to get in touch with a librarian and find more resources.

Finding Sources

There are a lot of different types of sources you may need for your research, and different places to find them. This guide will help you figure out what you need and where to find it. Here is an overview of what this guide will cover:

  • Using OneSearch to find books, media, articles, reports, and more, and to request things from other libraries
  • Understanding what peer-reviewed and scholarly articles are and where to find them
  • Knowing how to familiarize yourself with a topic that is new to you
