The Research Process

Moodle modules available, too

Did you know? The Library now has two Moodle sites.

The Moodle Information Literacy Project enables faculty to download complete lesson plans for information literacy and critical thinking instruction.

10+ Ways to Embed Library Resources shows you different ways to link to SSU Library resources, including databases, video clips, articles, books and more!

Bad Information v. Good Information

What is “bad information?”

Example: you are traveling and you are looking for a hotel in a country you do not know. You search online and you find a hotel that looks really good, based on a lot of positive reviews. The pictures and the hotel description also make it look large, inviting, clean and well managed.

But what if you get there and the hotel is smaller than you thought, smells of sewage when you walk in, and you’re not comfortable with the cleanliness of the room? This is what we mean by…“You have been given bad information!” The information was unreliable, unfactual or misleading. (See some great examples of hotel photo fake-outs.)

  • What are the characteristics of “good information”? In other words, how do you recognize good information?
  • How can you make sure you have really high quality information?

Brainstorm your answers for 5 minutes. Then the whole class will discuss and compare our answers.
